Chicago Intimate Elopement - Love in the Time of Coronavirus
The first time I met Daniel + Jessica to talk about photographing their wedding wasn't actually the first time I met, met them. I'd had the joy of photographing a few of their friend's weddings, so it was more of an "oh good to see you again!" We had our first wedding meeting at Colectivo Coffee, I knew right away I wanted to be a part of their wedding. They have such a lovely story, childhood friend of friend meets college friend of friend, the rest is history. That friend, Chris, eventually officiated their "zoom" wedding.
We had our final walkthrough of their wedding venue the week before Illinois went on COVID-19 lockdown. Just days later, their wedding would be postponed. Jessica + Daniel immediately got the ball rolling to postpone their wedding celebration to next year. They asked if I would be comfortable photographing a zoom wedding ceremony in their home while under quarantine? I knew there were risks, but it felt imperative to be a part of this, to document this strange period of history we're currently living through. I also couldn't imagine not being there. We had a lovely couple of hours.
We maintained social distance, I used a 70-200 mm zoom lens for most of the ceremony, there were masks, sanitizer, oh, and whiskey too. We even took a couple "social distance" portraits. So here is a little glimpse into the future of wedding photography in 2020. I am very much looking forward to capturing their wedding celebration on their one-year anniversary!
